Wonderful place, wonderful owners.
I will start off by saying that I had high hopes for my mini-vacation at the Red Cedar Lodge near Charles City. My high hopes were based mainly on the fact that my wife and I do not take a lot of time for ourselves. I imagined relaxing for a couple days in an authentic cabin, my feet propped on an ottoman while being warmed by a fireplace. That all changed as we drove up to the property and I finally had my first sighting of the gorgeous cabins and the beautiful parcel of land they sat on overlooking the half frozen Cedar River. This is not just a place to go for a few days break from the normal humdrum of our lives, this little slice of nirvana has a power all its own. The views are breathtaking. As I walked from the cabin toward the river bank, sitting in front of a fireplace was no longer on my agenda. I was just simply lost in the beauty. And after meeting the owner and speaking with his wife on the phone, I felt that after all these years they too are still as mystified by the it's charm as the day they became it's proprietors. They truly want you to have a magical experience and it is evident by their kind hearts and the love they feel when they learn a customer is thoroughly enjoying their stay.
